The three universities I've been affiliated with have different names for the mini-classes taught by TAs within a large lecture class: "sections", "recitations", and "tutorials". Of these, "tutorial" is obviously the best; "section" is really vague and "recitation" is bizarrely off-target.

i remain sort of offended by how people just assume you're supposed to know what ‘recitation’ is intended to actually mean.

Columbia called these events, when they occurred, "roundtable."

Occasionally, we held them in the seminar room where the table was actually a large oval.

Princeton has "precepts" led by "preceptors." I still don't really know what these words mean.
