Linking this here so I can find it later: the late Percy Julian, Jr., speaking about his father (Percy Julian, Sr.), a noted chemist, for a PBS biography of him. Julian Jr., who grew up in Oak Park, Ill. in the 1940s and '50s, is a rare example of an African-American with the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.
