This wall plaque was left behind in my old apartment in Philadelphia some years ago by a former housemate, and (like so many such things) ended up following me to Toronto. It was left behind long enough ago that I no longer remember who actually first brought it to the apartment (if I ever knew); my guess is
nautiluspq, but I'm really not sure.

The quotation, as far as I can tell, is from the 19th-century German Jewish writer Berthold Auerbach. But what's this that it says in the corner of the painting?

…Apparently Rhonda Kullberg has confused Berthold Auerbach with former Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach.
Well, it's an easy mistake to make, I guess.
