Taken this time from [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia.

You know the drill: I put my iTunes on shuffle, and then put the first line of each song here; and then all of you guys are supposed to identify the name and source of each song. In the event that a song begins with its title, I've given its last line instead. No cheating. And have at it!

The ones that have been identified are italicized.

1. Peacocks? Sink me!...
2. Look, ma'am—an invitation!...
3. ...It's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.
4. Oh, the bases were empty on the diamond of my heart...
5. Giorgio, I stand here staring at the sunrise...
6. ...very merry vegetarian!
7. Mother said straight ahead...
8. Mayn kind, mayn treyst, du forst avek... ('My child, my comfort, you're going away...')
9. Hello and goodbye; I've just unemployed you...
10. Paris, the city of lovers, is glowing this evening...
11. May the Lord protect and defend you...
12. ...Let this embracing replace forever, keep us together evermore!
13. Finders can be weepers; losers can be keepers...
14. Of all the boys I've known (and I've known some)...
15. Gray skies are gonna clear up...
16. In a place that won't let us feel...
17. Every day I wake up, pour myself a cup...
18. There he goes! My congressman!...
19. Hey nonny ding dong, alang alang alang...
20. One minute I'm in Central Park...
21. Hey, up there! Way up there!...
22. Pennies or nickels or dimes....
23. Everybody's lover! Everybody's brother!...
24. Do you remember the night I held you so tight...
25. Times have changed...
26. Could be.... Who knows...
27. It takes a lot of men to make a gun...
28. ...boldly going forward, 'cause we can't find reverse.
29. There's a face that we wear in the cold light of day...
30. Many's the time I've been mistaken...
31. You'll never know how much I really love you...
32. Standing cold and scared on top of blue hill...
33. Here we are, your grateful children...
34. And soon we're humming along...

11 is "Sabbath Prayer" from Fiddler on the Roof
15 is "Put on a Happy Face."

Those are the only two I can identify from the outset. My guess is that is 19 is from Spamalot and has something to do with the knights who say "ni" but I haven't seen Spamalot yet. I'm seeing it in a few hours!

2 - Weekend in the Country
6 - Plant a Radish?
27 - Gun Song

That's all I can come up with...

Avenue Q is the other show that I really want to see but haven't yet (the first two were "Wicked" which I saw in the summer of 2005 and "Spamalot" which I just finished seeing). I'm so totally wrong on 19, but that's okay.

"Something's Coming" from West Side Story, no?

From: [identity profile] khyros.livejournal.com
Damn, people have already gotten to, 2, 6, 11, 13, 22, 24, 27, 28, 29.

The only one not guessed I know is:

19. "Sh-Boom" (Life could be a dream) and I think it's... the Platters? (but you could have a Harvard a capella group doing it, for all I know.)

From: [identity profile] dumble.livejournal.com
Here's my list before I looked at what anyone else had guessed. And I'd just like to point out that it's really hard to do this while simultaneously listening to SRO. =)

2. A Weekend in the Country, A Little Night Music
6. Plant a Radish, The Fantasticks
7. I Know Things Now, Into the Woods
15. Put On A Happy Face, Bye Bye Birdie
17. The Folgers Song, Rockapella
18. Sh'boom, I'm guessing you have it from the Din and Tonics, though it's presumably by someone else originally
22. Change, A New Brain
25. Gaaah, some a capella song whose name I can't think of
26. Something's Coming, West Side Story
27. "MEN! The answer is MEN!" ahem. Gun Song, Assassins
30. American Tune, Paul Simon
(Darn, there goes my showtunes/a capella streak! =)
31. Do You Want To Know a Secret, The Beatles
32. A Change in My Life, once again I'll guess that you have the Rockapella version, though it's originally by, you know, someone...

25. Hmm. So not that this is something I'm proud of, but actually the reason I know Anything Goes is because the Dins sing it.

Guess on 8: Oifn Pripitchik. No, that can't be right. I don't know enough Yiddish music. Damn.

Oy, you narrische kind!

The first line of Oyfn Pripichik, is, not surprisingly,
"Oyfn pripichik brennt a fier'l, und in shtib iz heyss";

THIS song would be that all-time Jewish mother guilter, "A Brivele der Mamen".

4. Not sure I've ever known the name of this song but it's something like "Bagged Me a Homer" sung by Lurleen Lumpkin.
9. I've always thought this little part was actually called "Hello and Goodbye" but it's right before "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" so maybe that's the right answer. From Evita, of course.

Yours are the only song memes I ever have a clue on.

3 - Kermit the Frog, "It's Not Easy Being Green"

First, the one that hasn't been guessed, judging by italics:

9. Oh shoot. It's from Evita. But I sure can't think of the title.
31. This really sounds like You Are My Sunshine, but the words aren't quite right.

And now, just for fun, everything I can get:

1. Creation of Man, from the Scarlet Pimpernel
2. Weekend in the Country, from A Little Night Music (::glee!::)
6. Plant a Radish, from the Fantasticks
7. Hello Little Girl (?), from Into the Woods
11. Sabbath Prayer, from Fiddler on the Roof
15. Put on a Happy Face, from Bye Bye Birdie
21. Oh this is totally something from How to Succeed
22. Change, from A New Brain (sigh. If only there were more semesters for me to be in the Noteables, and if I didn't feel the lure of such songs as Miller's Son...)
27. Gun Song, from Assassins
33. Lost in the Wilderness, from Children of Eden (::alsoglee!::)

I'll come late to the game and help clean up the leftovers:
5. Sunrise Letter, Passion
18. When Did I Fall in Love?, Fiorello
23. I'm pretty sure it's from The Muppet Movie, but that's the best I can do...

Oops... that was me.
Although it would have been kinda fun to wait and see whether you could have guessed that.

Sounds like my kind of person.

If I don't get all the showtunes

and I'm mad as Hell I didn't get Passion (didn't see it somehow) and Fiorello (didn't think of it), I can get all the Yiddish ones.

No. 14, I'm pretty sure, is the English language version of Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen, sung by the Andrews Sisters. The Yiddish original was written by someone (God knows who) for a show called I Would If I Could. Sounds crazy, no?

Yeah, but Secunda, unlike Berlin, wrote only music. The lyrics, I have learned, were by Jacob Jacobs (a name to reckon, or at least repeat, with).

And to finish the clean-up

From: [identity profile] notachnai.livejournal.com
No. 20 is from a Billy Joel song that Disney used for Oliver & Co., but I'm damned if I can remember the name (I keep thinking "What, Me Worry?", but that would be Mad).

And I'm almost certain No. 23 is a Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem number called something like "Picture This".
