Unexpected encounter
Jul. 23rd, 2012 06:59 pmOn Saturday
kepod and I watched (re-watched, in my case) Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles—the documentary about Philadelphia artist Justin Duerr's investigation to identify the creator of the Toynbee tiles, these mysterious linoleum tiles that appear embedded in the streets of Philadelphia and elsewhere:

I recommend the movie both as an interesting small-scale real-life mystery story, especially to anyone who's seen these tiles in the street, and as a character portrait of its protagonist Justin Duerr (and because it's got some pretty awesome Philly accents from some of the people Duerr and his co-investigators interview).
But anyway,
kepod and I saw the movie on Saturday, and then today we happened to meet Justin Duerr himself in a Wawa. We went over to him and were like, 'hey there, we just watched your movie the other day,' and he was like, 'yeah, it's a little weird, since we made the movie two years ago, and finally now that it's online I'm getting people recognizing me and e-mailing me and so on.' Anyway, it was a nifty sort of coincidental encounter, and he seemed pretty cool with random fans addressing him while he was getting a cup of coffee.
