I attempted to do this via the mail.

I mailed his security deposit to the address that he notified me was his current residence.


The envelope was returned to me stamped ADDRESSEE UNKNOWN.

I e-mailed him. Turned out he'd given me the wrong apartment number. (In particular, he'd given me an apartment number that doesn't exist.) I have another apartment number to try and send his check to now though.
