The footnote "Note that dozen and twelve are clearly not synonymous, though there’s a question concerning a possible root doz- that will need to be looked into" leans me a little more firmly in the direction of "parody".

‘dozen’ and ‘twelve’ at least have fairly different syntactic/combinatorial properties. compare ‘four dozen eggs’ with ‘*four twelve eggs’.
