So um... earthquake.

Everyone at the ling lab was like, wait a minute, is the building shaking? Then we went out on the porch and people across the street were doing the same thing.

We felt it here in NYC. My office building was evacuated. Fortunately, I wasn't in it at the time, so I did not have to walk down 12 flights of stairs and instead could get some work done.

I thought people lived on the East Coast so these things wouldn't happen. My parents and rford (DC) and my sister (NYC) are fine; I still haven't been in an earthquake; my building in Chicago continues to shake as trains come through the station on the ground floor.

My first thought in fact was 'oh, subway passing beneath the building'. But my second thought was 'wait a minute, we're two blocks from the subway here'.
