Further encounters
May. 8th, 2011 12:04 pmSo
midnight_sidhe and I (and Catherine, who had come over to play Dominion) were talking about the end of the Belgariad, and in particular whether or not it makes sense that Durnik ends up marrying Polgara. "She's an immortal sorceress; she's never going to be satisfied with a blacksmith!", says
midnight_sidhe. "He gets to be immortal now too!", I reply. Sometime during this conversation, roommate D. comes in, and after two or three minutes he says "Wait, they have immortality now? Why haven't I heard about this?" And then three or four minutes after that, he says "Oh, were you guys talking about fiction?"
(Also, he says that he's decided that for his mental health he has to go out and hit on girls every two days. Which, you know, good for him for trying to figure out what he needs to do for his mental health, but I reserve the right to be creeped out by the impersonality of it.)

Date: 2011-05-08 05:39 pm (UTC)No, no, it's not because he's a blacksmith! He could have been a prince and it wouldn't make any more sense. It's because she needs someone as passionate as she is and Durnik - though a perfectly fine fellow - is... not. If they stayed together, he would suffocate her and she would end up cheating on him. She'd feel terrible about it, but otherwise she would be stifled.

Date: 2011-05-09 01:34 am (UTC)'I have two years. You know that, right? There are some things I want to do. I want to become a better salsa dancer, and I want to get better at meeting people. You know, specifically people of the female persuasion.' Then he started talking about how he wants a community of intellectuals and doesn't know how he's going to find one in Cleveland.
