Matt's name-that-tune meme
Jun. 10th, 2006 09:56 pmOkay, a variation on the preceding meme, taken from
occultatio. The idea is, you get the first few seconds of the song before any lyrics start, and you have to try and identify the song from that much introduction. Note: a few of these are from pieces with no lyrics at all; and in one, the lyricless introduction is actually much longer than the excerpt provided here.

For the eight unsolved ones, following
brokenwndw, I've picked four seconds at random out of the middle of the song, to aid in your identification. But, to make it a little bit more fun, I don't tell you which of the eight new excerpts matches to which of the eight unsolved introductions.

Hm. I suppose there's less variety here than I expected. So it goes. Correctly guessed ones are highlighted, and their answers are here.
Edit, 16 June: All the correct answers are now listed on the answer sheet, including the three unguessed ones.

(Oh, and by retroactive cheating, kinda: 27 is "The Simple Joys of Maidenhood," but I really shouldn't get credit for that.)

5) Going through the Motions, Once More With Feeling
7) Three Bedroom House, Bat Boy
8) Stars, Les Miserables
11) I feel like I know this, but it's not coming to mind...
13) Tennis Song, City of Angels
14) Okay, I KNOW I know this one. I'm going to kick myself.
15) Riddle, Scarlet Pimpernel
16) GAAAH! I know this one too! Damn you brain, function!
18) I Hold Your Hand in Mine, Tom Lehrer
19) Chromolume #7/Putting It Together, Sunday in the Park with George
20) It sounds like Stars and the Moon, but I think it's not. Too much sound disruption for me to tell.
25) Sounds familiar, but I don't recall offhand.
Jeez, this is HARD. At least I knew some of yours; I couldn't get anywhere on Matt's.

20 - sounds like it wants to be Tiny Dancer by Elton John, but it isn't
The other ones I knew have been picked off, sadly. I'd better friend you for next time (which I thought I'd already done...)

Date: 2006-06-11 05:07 am (UTC)10: No; but I can see the similarity, now you point it out.

Date: 2006-06-11 06:14 am (UTC)4) Henry Ford (Ragtime)
7) Three Bedroom House (Bat Boy)
9) I'm a Believer (The Monkeys, or Smash Mouth)
15) The Riddle (Scarlet Pimpernel)
21) I'm a Train (the Dins)
23) Charlie Brown theme
29) All the Small Things (Logarhythms)
And I'm kicking myself for not being able to get 11 or 14. I also know (that is, recognize but can't place) 22, but I care less that I can't get that one. I might also recognize 20, but maybe I'm just fooling myself because it sounds like vaguely like Songs for a New World (which I saw, and it was awesome! =).

Date: 2006-06-11 06:20 am (UTC)I'm really surprised that nobody's getting 14 (
Yay for seeing Songs for a New World! And, yeah, 20 does sound kind of like it, doesn't it.

Date: 2006-06-11 06:25 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure I recognize 22 as a pop song of some sort, but of course, since I can't actually say what song it is, I could be wrong.

Date: 2006-06-11 01:15 pm (UTC)The other thing is, it doesn't actually sound that much like the rest of the song, or at least not enough to extrapolate from just that portion.

8) really sounds lke Stars, from Les Miz. but i don't think it is.
17) Moondance. (it's a marvelous night, for a moon dance)
19) sounds almost like the tune from Sunday in the Park with George when the modern-day descendant of Seurat presents his electronic work.
23) Linus and Lucy
27) "Life is Happiness Indeed" - Candide
28) "Jellicle Cats" - Cats
2), 9) 18) 25) 29)and 30) won't play on my comp.

(27) is your only wrong answer. I don't have any explanation for why several of them won't play for you, though.
